Working on it!
Donald R. Mazas, EA
I’ve been practicing tax accounting, income tax preparation, tax resolution, and payroll for individuals and small businesses for 30 years and counting. It all began a long, long, time ago when I took accounting in high school because my father was an accountant. I loved it so much I took it again the following year. At 17 I lost my father two weeks before graduating high school leaving behind my mother and my 7 yr old sister. With a young child to raise and a new business to run I couldn’t burden my mother to pay for college. In order to attend I worked a few hours a week in her beauty parlor, on top of various full time jobs in the food service industry, a mechanic at a bowling alley, a machine shop building custom machines, roofing, and managed a convenience store. In 1989, while in college, I started in the accounting field working at Bogushas and Panella PC for Delores Panella, CPA and Chester Bogushas, PA (PAs predate CPAs). At the time Mr. Bogushas was the president of the Connecticut Association of Public Accountants, needless to say I was very intimidated and constantly felt the need to prove myself and used my diverse work experiences and insights to do so, in the process helping many clients. As time passed I gravitated towards income tax law and the tax accounting side of the business. I found income tax law more interesting than auditing and it is primary reason why I became an enrolled agent rather than a CPA.
On a personal note; I served on the board of directors for the Baseball Association of Wolcott, Inc. for 10 years, I also coached there for 15 years. I enjoy cornhole, woodworking, fishing, camping, and most outdoor sports (knee injury forced me to stop tennis, basketball and skiing), I have also been known to log some time on the Xbox.
